Nearly 2,500 people gather for an evening of socializing while consuming roughly 320 bushels of crabs, 3,400 ears of corn, 100 gallons of crab soup, 1,800 hot dogs, 150 pounds of beef barbeque, and hundreds of gallons of soft drinks and beer. As well as a bake sale for all of those with a sweet tooth!
This well-known Annapolis event is a major fundraiser for our local community that benefits many different non-profit organizations.

Zero Waste Crab Feast
Be “Bay Responsible” and help Rotary make this a ZERO-WASTE event again this year. Since we partnered in 2013 with Annapolis Green to learn how to be “Bay Responsible” and put on a Zero-Waste event along with our partner Veteran Compost, we have been able to achieve a 100% reduction in our “trash” that goes to the dump as seen in the graphic on the left.
ZERO-Waste means that NOTHING will go to the landfill. EVERYTHING will be recycled or composted. In just two months the Crab trays, crab shells & all other food waste, all paper products, spoons, knives, and even wooden mallets go in compost. Yes, that includes spoons, knives, and the clear beer cups too. They look like plastic, but are made from plants and therefore, are compostable! All that will turn into beautiful soil enrichment for the garden in just two months!
How YOU Can Be Bay Responsible
First, respect the bounty of the Bay. Take only as many crabs as you can eat. Don’t waste them.
